| I figured I would be tired the end of the week of ZCon, and I was right. I decided to take the Auto-Train to save myself 2/3's of my trip home. It leaves from Sanford, FL @ 4:00 PM everyday. It arrives at Lorton, VA @ 9:00 AM the following day. When I took it, we arrived at 7:50 AM, were let off the train at 8:15 AM, and my car was unloaded around 9:00 AM and I was on the highway by 9:05 AM. The ride was comfortable and relaxing. Huge reclinable seats, free dinner, an "in-flight" movie and a continental breakfast. I was a little leary letting someone drive my car on and off the train but the two drivers I watched touch my car were very carefull and went extremely slow. They even took a video of my car when I first dropped it off to be a proactive source of evidence in case of any mishaps.
One of the guys who was also from ZCon with a pristine 240 mentioned he took the train down to Florida and got a chance to walk inside the train car that housed his car and he noted the following things: Solid floors on top, not grated so fluids/debris can fall on top of it. The roof has some sort of ventilation so if you can, request you put your car on the bottom. (They may do this anyway since it will more then likely be lowered and there is more clearence and less of an approach angle on the bottom.)
All in all I'm very pleased with the experience, and for only $237 for myself and the car, I will, without a doubt, be utilizing this service in the future.
